Some Things I Don’t Understand:
Almost everything that I read in the MSM and in other Sources such as the WSJ and internet sites as well as the major TV news channels seem to separate “the war” into different categories. Iraq (the one Bush started?). We won that one when Saddam was toppled. The war against Terrorism (which is a tactic) and not an identifiable entity by country. Afghanistan (the other war) is often not mentioned (unless there are American deaths) as well as other areas of conflict such as Colombia and the Philippines to name a few. It seems to me that we (Americans) would have a more clear understanding if everyone would identify and categorize what is going on in the world, into one single category, as a “WAR Against Extremism, primarily Islamic (Jihad) Fundamentalists“. This seems to be the major common denominator throughout the world and the various antagonists, including Taliban, Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, Sunnis, Shiites, Syria, Iran, to name a few. Our friendly despot in North Korea is a separate issue but terrorism and threats are his tactics as well. I think the country should get off all the political correctness and, as they used to say, call a spade a spade, and refer to this as “The War Against Extremism” regardless of where it is fought and one we must win to preserve western culture and our way of life.
The attempt to separate the different actions is, I believe one of the main reasons for the discord and disagreement amongst Americans from all walks of life and political groups. Perhaps by rallying around this definition of the war we can unite as a country regardless of who is President or who controls the house or the senate and focus on the main objective which is to defeat extremism regardless of how long it takes, which I fear is most likely to be for many more years, if not forever, due to the nature of the enemy.
